The Facts Behind the Yuko Hair Straightening System

The Facts Behind the Yuko Hair Straightening System

Having naturally curly hair is both a blessing and a curse. It’s a blessing because it tends to hold a style really well. It also gives your hair a bit more pizzazz. But the daily upkeep associated with curly hair can be really annoying. This is especially the case if you’re trying to get it straight. Fortunately, such difficulties can easily be resolved if you opt to use the Yuko Hair Straightening System which can be found in most beauty products shops.

How does this work? Basically, the Yuko Straightening System is designed to actually change the chemical structure of your hair. It does this by applying Cystine and electricity to the shaft, (through a special flat-iron). During this process the heat from the electricity changes the protein bonds within the hair. These changes remain permanent for that particular strand.

Of course, don’t get mislead by marketing hype. Contrary to popular belief, the Yuko Hair Straightening System will not keep curly hair straight forever, as my friend who went traveling in a caravan quickly discovered. This is because the treatment needs to be reapplied every time the hair grows. If it’s not reapplied, only a portion of the hair will be straight. That’s why it’s recommended that you get the treatment every six to eight weeks.

It should also be noted that there’s controversy surrounding the Yuko Hair Straightening System and African American hair. Some believe it’s ineffective while others believe that it will cause too much damage to the hair, (since Black hair is very fragile). Then there are others who believe that the system is effective if it is used by someone who knows how to do Black hair.

Well, here’s my take on that issue. A couple of years ago, I suggested to a friend to go to a Korean beautician, (she was a friend of my husband’s aunt). I felt a little uncomfortable sending her there because I wasn’t sure she could do Black hair. But my husband’s aunt insisted she could.

And she did do a very good job, but guess what her method was– the Yuko hair straightening system. My friend’s hair was silky straight and easier to manage once she was done. Granted, it didn’t last forever, but it was definitely straighter than if she had gotten a more ethnic perm. Still, always use caution. If a beautician says they don’t know how to do Black hair, don’t go with them.

Also keep in mind that regardless of your race, the Yuko Hair Straightening System will cost you a pretty penny. And with a price range of £200 to £600, not many women are even going to be able to afford it. But if you can, it’s definitely worth trying out.
